The One Mindset Shift
Most first-time charter guests overpack — bringing dressier clothes they never wear and leaving behind the breathable basics they actually need. On a luxury Indonesian yacht, life is barefoot, swimwear-on, and casual. The crew sees swimsuits all day every day. Save space for what matters: sun protection, comfort, and one good evening look.
Day Wear (8 AM – 6 PM)
- 3 swimsuits: Rotate so one is always dry.
- 2 pairs of board shorts / quick-dry shorts: For paddleboarding, snorkeling, tender rides.
- 3–4 breathable shirts: Cotton, linen, or technical UPF tops. Long sleeves help with sun.
- 1 light cover-up / sarong: Indispensable on deck and at lunch.
- 2 hats: A wide-brim sun hat for deck, a baseball cap for windy tender rides.
- Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 50): Mandatory in Raja Ampat and recommended everywhere. Mineral-based (zinc oxide) is best for coral.
- Polarized sunglasses: A second pair as backup is wise.
Evening Wear (Sunset Onwards)
There's no formal dress code on Indonesian charters, even on superyachts. The vibe is upscale resort. One nice linen shirt or a flowing summer dress is plenty. Avoid heels — yacht decks are teak and barefoot is the norm.
- 1 linen shirt or button-down: For dinner, sunset cocktails, and any onshore visit to a village.
- 1 light jacket or shawl: For air-conditioned interior dinners and slightly cooler nights at northern anchorages (Wakatobi, Banda).
- 1 pair of comfortable trousers or a maxi dress: That's it.
Activity-Specific Gear
- Diving: BCDs and tanks are provided. Bring your own mask, fins, and a 3 mm shorty wetsuit if you run cold (essential in Raja Ampat May–Sept).
- Hiking (Padar, Rinca, Wayag): Closed-toe trainers or grippy water shoes. Trails can be steep and rocky. Bring 1 L water bottle minimum.
- Snorkeling: Bring your own mask if you have one — fit matters more than quality. Yacht-supplied gear is fine but generic.
- Komodo dragon walks: Long trousers, closed shoes, light long sleeves (mosquitoes near Rinca).
Regional Notes
Komodo (Apr–Oct)

Practical Notes on Luggage
- Soft duffle bags: Easier to stow in cabins than hard cases.
- Domestic flight weight limits: Wings Air to Labuan Bajo and Susi Air to Sorong both enforce 20 kg checked + 7 kg cabin. Pay-per-kg overage is significant.
- Laundry: Most luxury yachts offer laundry service free or for nominal fees. You can re-wear easily.
Final Thoughts
